Read two letters to the editor about the life of digital nomads.

Letter 1

I enjoyed reading the stories of those who have had a taste of the nomadic lifestyle. However, it seems that none of the problems they mentioned are actually related to nomadism. These are universal issues. Everything they didn’t like existed long before the words “digital nomad” entered our vocabulary. Trouble finding an apartment to rent? Unfamiliar food? Heat? People feeling disconnected from each other? All these are symptoms of our crazy times, and our task is to come up with ways to fix this together, rather than running to the office, where supposedly some of these problems will be solved (spoiler: they won’t).
Ivan Medvedev
Trento, Italy

Letter 2

I was born and raised in Kuala Lumpur, the capital of Malaysia, and life for most locals there is far from the paradise it can seem for digital nomads. A coffee at Starbucks costs around 11 Malaysian ringgit (£1.90), which is very accessible if you earn in British pounds, but not if you’re paid in the local currency. The same goes for renting an apartment with a rooftop swimming pool. I’m curious to hear about the expat¹ experience of leaving London due to increasingly higher rents only to — unintentionally — end up contributing to rising rents in the Asian neighbourhoods they move to.
Abigail Gomez
London

(www.theguardian.com, 06.07.2025. Adapted.)

¹An expatriate or expat is a person who voluntarily resides outside their native country.

Answer the questions, in Portuguese. Be concise and direct, and do not repeat the question in your answer.

a) In Letter 1, identify one issue that Ivan Medvedev describes as common and not exclusive to digital nomad life. Identify Medvedev’s perspective on the idea of simply returning to the office as a solution to the problems he discusses.

b) In relation to Letter 2, explain the difference between buying a coffee at Starbucks while being paid in British pounds versus being paid in ringgits. Explain what Abigail Gomez is “curious to hear about”.

Resolução:
